Morris Homes
Overview
The original project for Morris Homes involved creating a bespoke intranet system. This project ran into difficulties because of the effort involved in such an approach and the constantly shifting end dates. Ultimately the project ground to a halt and staff were at a disadvantage without an online information channel. Within two weeks of shelving the original project, Morris Homes had Intranet DASHBOARD (iD) operational and online.

Client Profile
The Morris Group is one of the UK's largest privately owned house-builders. The group is responsible for around 3500 jobs and has divisions in the North West, East and West Midlands together with the South.
The company builds a distinctive range of homes, from apartments and mews through to large bespoke detached properties. Sites range from small hamlets through to entire urban villages with in excess of 1000 dwellings. In addition, the company is becoming increasingly involved in a wide variety of mixed-use schemes and developments with an emphasis on affordable housing to meet the needs of a growing population.
The intranet gives Morris Homes a way to centralise information and communicate effectively to all their office locations.
The Challenge
Morris Homes operates from 5 main sites and the challenge was to communicate accurate information and consistent messaging across the country, and quickly. In the past, a company magazine had been distributed to all staff, but this became unreasonably costly and inefficient to produce.
In summary they needed a system that would:
- Provide a simple to use, pleasant online experience for their end users.
- Save them untimely and costly application development; access to pre-built tools and functionality.
- Provide centralised access to resources and documents.
- Enable all areas of the business to communicate with each other, quickly.
- Improve the circulation and management of technical drawings.
The Solution for Morris Homes
The ease of deployment and transparent costs were a winning factor in choosing Intranet DASHBOARD. Initial deployment took just 2 weeks. The intranet was online ready for publishing within hours. When the business was given access to the new intranet it immediately found further uses for it in each respective department, providing feedback to the project team to make improvements on it, thus gaining wide buy-in.
Communication was a key driver for iD within the organisation. It allowed the business to create a bespoke information channel to its employees, and it allowed Morris Homes to reach people on the ground quickly, which was particularly important for a company such as this which operates from 5 sites.

Business processes have been improved. For example the Health and Safety (H&S) department have created a subsite that provides a central resource for all H&S updates and documentation. More generally the intranet provides a central repository for company documents. News is shared quickly and the People Search tool, which hooks into Active Directory, cuts down the time necessary to find the right person to contact.
