Zoological Parks Board, NSW
Overview
Intranet DASHBOARD was implemented at the NSW Zoological Parks Board, who manage the world famous Taronga and Western Plains Zoos, to introduce internal communications efficiencies. The Board aims to develop an international competitive advantage over other centres of conservation.
Client Profile
The Zoological Parks Board of New South Wales is recognised as a leader in the world zoological community. The Board's primary objectives are to facilitate visitor and community education, biological research and wildlife conservation. More than 1.5 million people have visited the zoos during the past 12 months.
The Board has a commitment to the preservation and conservation of wildlife and demonstrate this through ongoing captive breeding and research programs. The 600-800 seasonal staff that manage this program, are now supported by Intranet DASHBOARD.
The Challenge
The Board and its employees had limited access to shared information. Content was not always presented in the best light, making it hard to digest.
Furthermore, one of the challenges to managing constantly changing, seasonal staff is that knowledge from one season to the next was not always captured or shared. In addition to this the zoos needed a way to share valuable ideas that maybe of benefit to either zoo.
They could not justify having a full-time dedicated webmaster to manage the site and all its information, therefore a system that supported a decentralised publishing model was required. In this way the workload could be distributed and shared without unnecessary impact on any one individual's daily activities.
In summary, the Board needed a system that would:
- Be easy to use and easy to manage.
- One system that would give them access to all the communication, collaboration and publishing tools they needed; 40 pre-built tools.
- Be able to customise the look and feel of the site.
- Deliver cost reductions in terms of infrastructure and maintenance.
- Enable staff at the zoos to search across all information.
- Offer a platform that would make changes in the site architecture easy following the growth of the organisation.
| "Intranet DASHBOARD have a good approach to tools and offer consistent ways to use them. Apart from the usability benefits, it satisfies all of our business requirements."

The Solution for Zoological Parks Board
Intranet DASHBOARD was implemented in 2006. The greatest benefit to date has been the cost saving in staff time in finding information. The Board is now able to distribute news across the entire organization through the News module. News can be shared with relevant sub-sites or posted to the default homepage.
Information is presented in an attractive, readable form. Staff can search and access documents and other content in a number of ways.
Furthermore the ease-of-use of the system has meant that a number of people can publish information in real time. Knowledge is captured and shared through clever tools.
| "I like the business model approach of the software. It allows direct areas in the business to contribute. Keep up the good work Intranet DASHBOARD."
