As databases grow bigger with more content, they can slow down – it happens with any database especially those with high usage.

There are a few common methods we recommend to help keep your Intranet DASHBOARD databases performing at their best.

Defragmenting the database

Some of you may be familiar with defragmenting your hard drive. Defragmenting your database works in a similar way, but it is specifically for your database. Database defragmenting inspects the indexes (or data structure) of the database and then reorganizes the indexes to be in a more efficient order.

Permanent delete

Using permanent delete allows you to clean up some of the old deleted files, or revisions of files stored within iD and the filestore.  This means that old and generally unrequired data is removed, reducing the overall size.

Database shrink

After performing a permanent delete, your database will reduce in size, but this additional space will not automatically be returned to your server hard drive.  As databases increase in size, they also allocate space to “grow”. When you reduce the size of a database, this space is left allocated to the database, unless it is released manually.

If you believe your iD installation could benefit from any of the above maintenance tips, feel free to contact our Support Team (support@intranetdashboard.com) who will be more than happy to assist in implementing these methods.
